Cormac has had a passion for Circus from a young age, and has made Circus his career since training at the Belfast Circus School in 1999 – 2000. Cormac is now artistic director of Circus Factory, having been one of the founding members, and combines his love of circus with his passion for sharing knowledge and skills. He is one half of acrobatic dance duo Lords of Strut, who went on to conquer the street by winning the Street Performers World Championship in 2013 and then wowed the world in 2017 by reaching the semi-finals on Britain’s Got Talent. Cormac continues his mission to convince you, everyone and the world that Circus is deadly!
Hi Cormac! Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I’ve been working in Circus since 2000 when I completed Belfast Circus School. Cormac is also Artistic Director of Pitch’d Circus and Street Arts Festival happening 9th-25th September 2022.
Can you tell us about your journey into Circus?
I first started teaching social circus after college, and then started to do classic busking shows on the streets of Cork. I formed Lords of Strut in 2009 and that double act has brought be around the world for over a decade, and we became Street Performance World Champions in 2013.
What can students expect from you as their coach?
I will be able to teach the basics in pretty much everything, and I hope to pass on my love for all things Circus and Street Theatre to the students.
What’s your favourite memory of performing with Circus?
How to remember 20 odd years doing nothing else but what I love! It’s hard to pick out any one moment.
What are you most excited about with the 3 Month Introduction Course in Contemporary Circus Arts?
Getting to spend dedicated time in passing on my knowledge, and giving students a real opportunity to dive into Circus
If you were a SuperHero, what would your superpower be?
To be able to turn into a ball of chaos that brings any situation into a organised mess. Basically be able to undo cables and wires in an instant! Or solve any chaotic situation with one simple solution that makes everything ok.
Cormac has years of experience in Circus and performing so you’ll be in great hands. As he said he can teach you the basics in pretty much everything so now is the time to step outside your comfort zone.
